Daily GFCF Journal

I am a mother of a 2.5 yr old boy, Jay, who has sensory integration disorder and is possibly autistic (he has an appt with a developmental pediatrician in a few weeks). Jay has had GI issues since the day we brought him home from the hospital. His issues are identical to those of ASD kids. I was told about the GFCF(Gluten Free, Casien Free) diet and tried it out over a month ago. I wasn't very strict with it, but noticed a significant change in his bowel movements and less head banging within weeks of eliminating most of the gluten and casein from his diet (mainly breads!!). Yesterday we were at my parents and they was a table full of snack foods, none of which were GFCF (my family doesn't understand the importance yet, but that will change soon), and we was begging for cake, so I gave him a small piece with no icing. He immediately had a loose bowel movement, had nightmares in his sleep last night, and has been extremely irritable today and has been banging his head on everything. I am certainly convinced that this is indeed a reaction to the piece of cake I gave him. So I've decided to go full force with this diet. I know that I will need to keep a daily journal to make note of what he's had to eat each day and how he behaved. This will help me (and the Drs and my family) to see how food affects him and how important this diet is for him. This blog is mainly just going to be a journal, but feel free to follow and comment, or share your stories with me.
